Senior Adult Ministry

Our Senior Adult Ministries focuses on supporting, nurturing and developing relationships with members of First United Methodist Church and senior residents of the Topeka community. Many of those served by this ministry are homebound. For others, the ministry is best described by its new name, A.L.E.R.T - , Actively Living and Enjoying ReTirement

The ministry strives to provide affirmation and recognition through:

  • visits
  • cards
  • letters
  • delivery of Christmas poinsettias and Easter lilies

We interact with those served to communicate God's recognition and special love for those who have provided the foundation for God's work through His church.

The Director of Senior Adult Ministries, Marilyn Kidd, is a resource for blood pressure checks, Health Care Directives forms and assistance, and direct payment of utilities.  Pamphlets on health care issues and support of caregivers are also maintained in this office.

The Senior Adult Ministries also supports small group activites targeted to members of the faith community who are retired or partially retired.  These groups include hospitality groups and those interested in group travel.

First UMC is a sponsoring congregation for Shepherd's Center of Topeka, www.shepherdscentertopeka.org Seniors are invited to participate in SCT's quarterly program of classes and fellowship, Adventures in Learning. Information is available on the web site or from Marilyn Kidd.
