Disciple Bible Study
New Disciple classes will be forming in August, 2009. Disciple I must be taken before Disciple II, III or IV, but after I the others may be taken in any order. Contact Tiwana at 233-8100 or spirit@fumctopeka.org with any questions or to enroll for a DISCIPLE Class. ALL DISCIPLE STUDIES assume that the Bible is the key to renewal in the church. It recognizes the human-divine nature of the Bible: The actual texts of Scripture were written by human beings like ourselves in their cultural settings, under the divine inspiration of God. Following are the specific date and times and description of the Disciple Studies that will be offered beginning this fall. If you are looking for an opportunity to go deeper in your knowledge of scripture with fellow Christians in a small group setting, DISCIPLE is a great option.Disciple I, "BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY" is a 34 week period to study the Bible, certainly. But also a group who fellowship, pray and support one another as they together seek to grow as disciples of Jesus. This study requires reading large portions of Scripture each week and is based on careful study and preparation. During the course of thirty-four weeks, groups will move through the biblical stories of Creation to the New Jerusalem. The titles of the sessions along with theme words; theme verses; and major persons, events, and topics will set the sequence of the biblical story in the minds of the participants. The principal Scripture for each session follows the chronological movement of the biblical story. Disciple Bible Study gives us the opportunity to learn and grown as we read and study in small groups. Tuesday evening Session - facilitated by Pastor Max; Orientation is September 1st at 6:00 p.m. and Class begins September 8th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Disciple II, " INTO THE WORD, INTO THE WORLD" is a 32 week study and an exciting continuation of your journey into scripture and Christian living. Over 32 weeks of study equal attention is given to both the Old and New Testament with concentration on four books: Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts No Disciple II session is scheduled for this Fall. Disciple III, "REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE" is a 32-week study which sets the Prophets and Paul's letters in historical and geographical context. There is an understanding that this study is a call to repentance - to turn one's life toward God. No Disciple Class is scheduled for this Fall. Disciple IV, "UNDER THE TREE OF LIFE" is a 32 week study and concentrates on the writings in the Old Testament –– Ruth, 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Lamentations, and Daniel. New Testament Scriptures include the Gospel of John; 1, 2, and 3 John; James; Jude; and Revelation. Class will be offered with day of week and time TBA
All Disciple studies call for individual daily study of the scripture along with a weekly meeting. The small group is led by a trained facilitator and there is a $30 cost for study materials. |
