Anniversary Habitat House

In the spring and summer of 2005, First Church  built a Habitat for Humanity house as an expression of thanksgiving to the community for 150 years of ministry.  Follow the progress of construction in this photo album:

At the groundbreaking on March 20, Al Acker, Piet Knetsch and Rev. Chamberlain joined Carol Palmer and her family in turning over the first dirt for the house. The Palmers will be the owners of the new home.

By the middle of April, the basement has been dug, the foundation poured, and the slab for the garage poured. The next step is the framing.

The last week in April saw students from shop classes at Washburn Rural High School framing the Habitat House.

By the end of Mother's Day weekend, the house was enclosed!

On May 15, it was really beginning to look like a house outside and work on the interior was ready to begin.

The first week in June was Youth Mission Week and they got most of the exterior painted.

The youth hard at work!

By the end of June, the exterior was finished!

In July, the pros came in for drywall, wiring and plumbing, and then the interior finishing began. On July 16, some of the youth and members of the Keystone and New Decade Sunday School classes worked on painting the inside walls.

Placing the outlet covers on the newly-painted walls.

By the last weekend in August, the finishing touches were put in place. The new washer and dryer, given by the First Church UMW, were brought in under the watchful eye of construction supervisor Al Acker (above). The Palmer family began moving in over the Labor Day weekend.
